Aerobarrier

The industry’s only plug-and-play solution to air leakage in buildings.

How It Works

A simple 4 step process

Preparation & Setup

Step 1

We undertake a pre-test seal to find out what air tightness level your building currently has and cover intended areas of air movement (e.g. cooker hoods, shower vents, window/door frames etc).

Start Sealing

Step 2

The building will be pressurized and AeroBarrier’s smart sealing stations activated. We monitor and control each unit’s progress via a computer positioned outside the building.

Monitor & Seal

Step 3

After reaching the desired air tightness level (anywhere from Building Regulations down to Passivhaus) the sealing stations are deactivated and the building will gently vent and depressurise.

Verify & Certify

Step 4

Once the process is complete we carry out a final post-seal air tightness test. This is an onsite verification of the building’s airtightness and guarantees your air leakage level.

Step 1 Box

Step 1: Preparation & setup

When our team of certified technicians arrive at your site, they will begin setting up the key pieces of equipment needed to undertake the seal which includes:

  • remote sealing stations
  • a computer
  • the blower door

Everything is taken through pre-test checks to ensure they interconnect correctly, and much of our kit is Wi-Fi enabled for ease of connection.

Preparation can take up to 60% of the overall time our team are with you on-site. Once everything is ready, completing the seal can take as little as 60 minutes.

Step 2: Start sealing

Our team will undertake a pre-seal air tightness test to record the initial leakage value of your building. They will then pressurise it to a constant 100Pa so the sealant application can begin.

The sealing stations provide real-time updates to our computer system. This controls how much sealant is sprayed into each area of your building and moderates its flow and pressure to ensure every room is sealed to the same level.

Step 2 Box

“[An] ingenious solution to… [an] important problem: heat leakage.”

Bill Gates, Annual Letter, The Year Ahead 2023

Step 3 Box

Step 3: Monitor & Seal

Following the sealing process from outside your building’s envelope, our team will check the progress and ensure all areas of unwanted leakage are sealed. This works much like using a smoke pen in a traditional air test but goes further by sealing the leaks after identifying them!

Any leakage points larger than ½”, or 12mm, can be easily found in the same way as smoke being drawn through leaks, which will be sealed manually alongside the AeroBarrier process.

Step 4: Verify & Certify

As the AeroBarrier system provides real-time updates about the progression of the seal, it is simple to switch the sealing stations on or off once the targeted air leakage has been reached. If you are on-site during your seal, our team will talk you through this final step as it happens.

Your building will be kept under pressure until the remaining atomised sealant has ‘overshot’ the goal air tightness level. This is important so our team can be certain that when they take the final test your building will beat any certification or Building Regulations requirements.

A final post-seal air tightness test will then be recorded which produces an in-house certificate to verify your building’s envelope leakage.
